Arsenal pull off EXTRAORDINARY comeback against Liverpool

It’s amazing what can change in just five minutes, eh?

Because after 52 minutes in Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Liverpool this evening, the Gunners were virtually dead and buried at 2-0 down.

EPA “I’ll go stick the kettle on, shall I?”[/caption]

Goals from Philippe Coutinho (in the first-half) and Mohamed Salah had given the Reds a deserved lead.

But Arsene Wenger’s side fought back, with the out-of-form Alexis Sanchez heading home almost straight away from the restart.

Minutes later, Granit Xhaka hit an ab-so-lute beauty from distance to equalise, before Mesut Ozil slotted home soon after to give them a completely unexpected lead.

That’s right.

Within five minutes, the Gunners went from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.

388 – There were just 388 seconds between Liverpool going 2-0 ahead and Arsenal taking the lead to make it 3-2. Rapid. #ARSLIV

Football, eh?

But you mustn’t write Liverpool off, as the Reds grabbed an equaliser on the 70th minute thanks to Roberto Firmino’s strike over the top of Petr Cech.

So Jurgen Klopp probably won’t murder his team, after all.

But he won’t be happy.

Liverpool – fighting for the title at the time – were hosting Arsenal at Anfield in a game that ended 4-4, with Andriy Arshavin netting all four of Arsenal’s goals.

Back then, it was a result that effectively ended the Reds’ title hopes that season, and made Arshavin a cult-hero in this fixture.

The game we saw tonight is certainly up there.

He was on the score sheet one again this afternoon, hitting a brace in Spurs’ 5-1 thrashing of Stoke.

And with those two goals, the striker broke an incredible 90-year record – becoming the first Englishman to score 50 goals or more in a single calendar year for both club and country, since Dixie Dean did so back in 1927 for Everton and England.

That’s some feat.

It’s certainly impressive to think that Kane has scored the half-century goals in just 48 games, putting him up there with the most potent attackers on the planet right now.

Kane will have to go a little further to match Dixie’s 1927–28 season though, which saw him hit 60 league goals for Everton, as they secured the First Division title.

He did alright for the national side too, notching 18 goals in just 16 appearances for England.

Something to aim for, Harry.

Manchester United vs Manchester City could be in jeopardy after Met Office issue warning… with eight inches of snow is set to fall in sub-zero Manchester on Sunday

Football news - transfers, fixtures, scores, pictures | The Sun
Manchester United vs Manchester City could be in jeopardy after Met Office issue warning… with eight inches of snow is set to fall in sub-zero Manchester on Sunday

THIS weekend’s Manchester derby may be in jeopardy after the Met Office issued a warning, saying eight inches of snow is forecast in sub-zero temperatures on Sunday.

The Met Office has upgraded their warning from “yellow” to “amber”, with snow set to fall between 4am and 6pm in all of Greater Manchester and even Liverpool – with the Merseyside derby also in doubt.

Old Trafford could be under eight inches of snow come the Manchester derbyOld Trafford could be under eight inches of snow come the Manchester derbyPA:Press Association The snow is set to cover all of Greater Manchester and even LiverpoolThe snow is set to cover all of Greater Manchester and even LiverpoolMet Office

With Manchester United and Manchester City set to kick-off at 4.30pm, by game-time the snow may have well and truly settled, with temperatures set to plummet to -1 degrees.

And while the Old Trafford pitch does have undersoil heating, should the precipitation be too heavy – or the stands be too icy to be deemed safe – the game could well be postponed.

There are also health and safety issues outside of the ground that could prevent the game from going ahead, with fans unable to get in the ground.

Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Bolton in 2010 was forced to be postponed due to snow in 2010, with Sheffield United’s clash with Scunthorpe rearranged in 2014 – at their Premier League-standard Bramall Lane.

One sliver of good news for United though is that should the game be rearranged, Paul Pogba would of course be available to play in the top-of-the-table clash.

On Friday, Met Office spokesperson Oli Claydon said: “On Sunday, the warning has changed as the confidence level has gone up.

DERBY DRAMA Manchester or Merseyside… which Premier League derby is the most exciting?

“In terms of the hours it is from 4am until 6pm. It is a winter front moving in from the southwest. And in terms of depth it could 2-5cms within the yellow warning areas.

“What we are looking like in that amber area is up to 10cms, 15-20cms in hilly areas.

The derby being called off would be great news for suspended Paul PogbaThe derby being called off would be great news for suspended Paul PogbaReuters

“Make sure you take close note of local emergency services. If you do have to travel, make extra time for journeys. It could cause disruption to transport services.

“Take extra care as there is the chance of ice being around as well.”

Man United go into the fierce local derby eight points adrift of neighbours City, knowing a win could trim the gap to just five points.

However, a loss would open up a surely unassailable 11-point lead in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool put Europe on alert, Eden Hazard unable to fulfil his potential at Chelsea and only ten English players in the starting line-up for five English teams… this week’s Champions League round-up

JOB very much done.

All five English clubs have made it through to the last-16 of the Champions League and it’s the first time that one country has ever done that.

Well done to all concerned.

Take the rest of the day off.

REDS ALERT Liverpool sent a warning to the rest of Europe with the dominant displayLiverpool sent a warning to the rest of Europe with the dominant displayPA:Empics Sport

“How did that happen?”

That was the reaction of manager Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool steamrollered Spartak Moscow at Anfield last night to win their group and book their place in the last-16.

Their latest rout took their goal tally in the Champions League thiss eason to 21 and that’s the most by an English side in a single group stage campaign ever.

It also makes it 43 goals in their last 11 games in all competitions too.

And despite all the criticism of that defence, they’ve only conceded seven goals across those games.

Make no mistake, nobody will want to play them in the next round.

HAZARD WARNING Can Eden Hazard fulfil his undoubted potential at Chelsea? Can Eden Hazard fulfil his undoubted potential at Chelsea?Reuters

Today is the day when we learn who has won the Ballon d’Or.

Inevitably, it will be Ronaldo or Lionel Messi yet again but why is there barely a mention for Eden Hazard?

The Belgian has been exceptional for Chelsea this year and starred again on Tuesday night in the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid, dribbling the visitors to distraction.

AU’S THAT? Inside the extravagant world of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang… set to bring his talent, and ‘Batmobile’, to Chelsea

The issue now, though, is whether Chelsea can take him to a level where he can genuinely challenge for the Ballon d’Or.

He has all the ability to do it. I’m just not sure he can really fulfil his true potential at Stamford Bridge.

CITY END OF THE STICK Man City slumped to defeat at the hands of Shakhtar DonetskMan City slumped to defeat at the hands of Shakhtar DonetskREUTERS

Manchester City’s defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk – their first in 29 games – won’t have caused too much consternation back at the Etihad.

The Citizens had already wrapped up their group so manager Pep Guardiola took the opportunity to blood the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz.

And before Manchester United fans get any ideas about a City slump ahead of the derby game this weekend, just remember that their starting line-up against Shakhtar had three or maybe four first choice players in it.

It’ll be a different story come Sunday.

SHAW THING The future of Luke Shaw at Manchester United is still very much up in the airThe future of Luke Shaw at Manchester United is still very much up in the airPA:Press Association

Reports of Luke Shaw’s demise have been greatly exaggerated it seems.

The one-time England full-back got his first start in seven months on Tuesday, suggesting that his days at Man United might not be numbered after all.

His problem, however, is who’s ahead of him and who might be coming in.

With Ashley Young cementing his position as Mourinho’s first choice left-back and rumours swirling of a big move for Spurs’ Danny Rose in the forthcoming transfer window, there may be little or no opportunity for the former Southampton defender to shine.

That’s a shame because there’s still a hell of player in there.

NATIONAL PRIDE? Joe Gomez was one of just ten English players to start in Europe this weekJoe Gomez was one of just ten English players to start in Europe this weekReuters

Football fans celebrated the fact that all five English teams had made it through to the last-16 of the Champions League.

But it’s worth pointing out that there were just ten Englishmen in the starting line-ups for Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tpttenham and Manchester City.

…Or, to put it another way, not even enough to put out a full side.

And of those ten, it’s hard to suggest that even half would make the England starting XI.

Those home-grown stars on display were Joe Gomez, Phil Foden, Luke Shaw, Gary Cahill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Danny Rose, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford and Chris Smalling.

Some big-name English players were rested of course, with the likes of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling sitting out… but either way, it’s the same old worry.

CLAIM YOUR FREE £20 BET Sun Bets are offering this great offer when you sign up and bet a fiver

Follow these three steps and you’ll have your dream team in no time.

1. Find a club with a decent budget and reputation

Once you’ve picked a team – move the entire transfer budget over to the wages.

Career Mode underwent some changes this year but the cheat remains the same

2. Renew at the right time

At the end of the first season, let your players’ contracts run down and renew them with one of two weeks left before the start of the following season.

3. The right price

Here’s the most important bit – you’re going to offer each player £1 million in wages.

Once you kick off a new season, you’ll be given a new transfer budget – with players on huge salaries, but in a wage system that more than accommodates their demands.

With this cheat you’ll be able to afford any player you want

This means that when you want to sign someone, simply include high-earning players in the deal and their wages will be put back in to the pot.
